Defining the circadian rhythm. Areas of the brain affecting sleep. Four rules to sleeping better.
I am a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist and have been the Coordinator for a hospital-based sleep lab for the last 10 years. Prior to that, I taught middle and high school science classes for 10 years. I get to combine those two subjects in my Outschool classes. I am very passionate about sleep! Many of the complaints that doctors see coming into their offices during the day, actually have their origins in the patient's sleep. By improving our educational exposure to diseases of our sleep, we will more easily recognize their symptoms and get them treated earlier, improving our life in the process. There are many detriments to bad sleep; hopefully your student will be able to take what they learn in the Science of Sleep series to improve their sleep, their health, and their life.
Activities are not mandatory and can be adapted to fit the needs of each individual learner. No assignments given in class. No reading out loud.
Paper and pen/pencil.
