Students will be reading And Then There Were None in between classes and answering questions on a worksheet. The questions will be discussed at the beginning of class.

We will check the answers in the next lesson. Students will be encouraged to not look up the ending to the book. They are to write who they think the killer is before reading the rest of the book.)

Homework: Read the Letter in the Bottle. (Students will fill out a worksheet while reading. We will check the answers in the next lesson.)
Lesson 11: An Analysis of the Letter in the Bottle (Students will check questions about the chapter and focus on themes, symbols and motifs. Important quotes from the chapter will be discussed.)
Homework: Skim through the book for any instances of foreshadowing
Lesson 12: Agatha Christie's Use of Foreshadowing (Students will be shown instances of foreshadowing in the book and how these work for the themes, symbols and motifs discussed)

Students will be encouraged to ask questions in a safe and relaxed environment. They are encouraged not to look up the answer to the mystery online and if they figure out the answer, they need to keep it to themselves until Lesson 11 where we will be discussing the killer.

And Then There Were None is a murder mystery. Even though nothing is too detailed, there are multiple deaths in the chapters and deaths alluded to in the characters past. Suicide is also mentioned in the book, but the deaths not fully detailed. The book was also written in 1939 and may have outdated views about race or gender. Your child is less likely to read these if they have a newer copy of the book. I don't focus on these in the class, but they are in the book.
