Learners will watch the assigned film on their own time and come prepared to discuss during class. While learners are encouraged to ask their own questions to guide the conversation, teacher-prompted questions will be on standby to help learners think critically about why different aspects of the film work or fail. From jump scares to suspenseful music to compelling characters, we'll analyze what makes horror films such a popular and enduring genre.

By participating in this class, learners will:
• Develop critical thinking skills by analyzing and discussing horror films
• Build communication skills by engaging in group discussions
• Gain a deeper understanding of the horror genre

This will all take place in a relaxed and informal setting, without any assignments. We are just horror movie fans having a conversation. This an ongoing course (more like an after-school club), so each class session exists on its own without the need to be present for the previous session.

The Horror Huddle welcomes learners with an interest in horror films and a passion for engaging in thoughtful discussions. No prior knowledge of the genre is required, but learners should be prepared to confront mature themes and subject matter. It is recommended that guardians consult parental guides for each film. If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Schedule:

Week of Mar 17 - 23: The Ring (2002, PG-13)
Week of Mar 24 - 30: Paranormal Activity (2009, R) - Paramount+
Week of Mar 31 - Apr 6: Delivery (2013) - Prime
