The brain is one of the most powerful and complex muscles in human anatomy. It grows with challenge, but atrophies with inconsistent practice. In many schools, brain development can be stifled due to the nature of high-stakes testing and other accountability measures that place performance over learning. Have no fear! The brain gym is here! The objective of this intensive course is to provide your child with resources, tools, and procedures to grow their most critical brain skills. What will my child learn? Your child will learn the definition of cognitive development and how the cultivation of brain skills can lead to an increase in academic performance and overall thinking processes. This course is a blend of discussions and interactive activities that strengthen children’s ability to think, process, communicate, and reason. How is your class structured? Our class is a 45-minute course that meets once every week for 6 weeks. The typical class breakdown is: - First 5-10 minutes: check in, review past lesson, complete the entry ticket - Next 25-30 minutes: learn new content - Last 5 minutes: play a collaborative game and receive tasks for upcoming class How do you teach? In this course, I utilize all learning styles to engage each child. This course does require a level of independence and accountability, as we will be doing group activities that should lead to individual growth. I primarily use slideshows and other multimedia platforms to deliver instruction and make learning fun! I also utilize videos and music for auditory learners, google slides for visual learners, and hands-on activities for kinesthetic learners. I incorporate informal and formal assessments in all my lessons to evaluate your child’s understanding of the content, including exit tickets and quick check-ins, to make informed decisions about the upcoming lesson. I am responsive to students' needs at all times. What does my child need to know before enrolling in this class? Your child needs to know their name and have an open mind! This class will challenge their thinking so open-mindedness is key! That’s it!

Innovative and Intentional Curriculum

Learning cannot occur until these things occur, and Corey is excited to build a relationship with your genius! The curriculum is therefore not derived solely from standards or achievement measures, but from real-world experiences, scenarios, and student choice. A few of our class topics will include:
History:
- Black History: Untold Truths
- Black History 101
- Eureka!
Math:
- Simple as Pie! Simplifying Proper and Improper Fractions
- Lions, Tigers, and Bears: Fractions, Decimals, and Percents
- Multiplication Boot Camp: Learn Your Facts Fast!

There is a class available for every age group! Most classes offer multiple sections that are also separated by age, so no matter the content area, your child will have the opportunity to participate in class and receive age-appropriate instruction. If you find that there is a specific course that is not offered for your child's age range, please request that course and Corey will create a section just for you!
