In this class, students will face real-life scenarios and have the opportunity to make decisions about their hypothetical future.

At the beginning of class, we'll look at the budgeting sheet provided in the classroom and see how the math works.
Then, each student will pick what apartment they live in based on pre-selected options.
Then, students will choose what type of vehicle they want to have based on pre-selected options.
The students will see what costs are associated with those choices (insurance, deposits, utilities, etc...).
Once students have decided what lifestyle they want to live, they will have the opportunity to choose what career (from a list of choices) they want to pursue .
Once their choices are made, students will play a game of chance and see if they can work their way through the month without running out of money.

*Students should have a basic understanding of adding and subtracting negative and positive numbers. Students also need to have the game sheet printed out prior to class.*

The game takes students through each day of the week where different surprises will meet them. Students will roll the die and the teacher will reveal the random choice on the game board. They may have an extra expense or receive unexpected money.

Students will learn:
- The costs associated with renting an apartment or house (deposits, parking fees, application fees, utilities, etc...)
- The cost of buying a car and the costs associated with having a new car (payment, insurance) and having a used car (repairs, insurance, etc...).
- An accurate income estimate based on their career choice
- How much money gets taken out of their checks each month
- What kinds of unexpected things pop up throughout the month

Students will be keeping up with their own bank ledger throughout the game. They will need to be able to add and subtract positive and negative numbers.

*Due to the length of this class, students will choose from a pre-selected group of apartments, cars, and careers.*

その他の情報

受講に必要なもの
Students will need a die to roll to play the game. They will also need a sheet of paper (or the ability to print the budget sheet), something to write with, and a calculator if they don't want to have to do the math by hand.

I have a lot of passions in life, but two of my biggest passions are reading and writing. One of my main goals is to create a love of literature. If a student can read well, the possibilities of what they can learn are endless. I believe that writing is a form of communicating. If a student can communicate, then a student can write.

As a woman with ADHD and two children with ADHD, I understand that no two students learn the same. I have experience teaching and helping students who struggle with ADHD and other neurodivergent tendencies. I am a member of Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD). I will help any student I can with whatever extra support they need. I can make sure students have fill-in-the-blank notes to help keep focus during class, keep PowerPoints and other visuals simple to prevent overstimulation, step-by-step written instructions for all assignments, or whatever else your student needs. I want all students to succeed. I encourage students to participate and keep their video on, but it is not required. I also welcome all students to stay unmuted, as long as they are respectful of others.

As a homeschool parent, I understand that different states have different requirements. I will provide a syllabus and detailed grades upon request. Also, make sure to ask about sibling discounts!

I have a bachelor's degree in writing with a minor in journalism. Before obtaining that degree, my original course of study was in education and literature. I regularly take professional development classes to fine-tune my skills as a writer and educator. I believe all of these things have worked together to create my unique teaching style.

- Teaching Hard History
- Framework for Teaching American Slavery
- Homework Solutions for Your Middle or High School Student (relating to ADHD and executive function skills)
