This class investigates the vital role geography has played in the last 100 years, where we’ve gone from primarily locally-produced goods, to factories and farms in far off places providing us with most everything. We will explore the history of trade routes, transportation systems and the science of logistics as well. As a parent, as well as a teacher for five decades, specializing in 10-13 year olds, I’m experienced in dealing gently with sensitive subjects, whether violence, inequality, infectious diseases or other topics, which in an ideal world would not be of concern to our youth. My approach consistently has been to respond directly to a young person’s specific concerns and then move on to underscore that in every situation there always are people who step up to make things better.
