"The Hobbit", by JRR Tolkien, has been beloved by generations of readers since it was first published in 1937. Its themes of courage, friendship, and the battle between good and evil are timeless and continue to resonate with readers today. It’s the classic epic tale of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, who is whisked away on an adventure with a group of dwarves and a wizard. Along the way, they encounter trolls, goblins, a dragon, and other dangers, in a tale full of excitement, action, and suspense. Whether you're a longtime fan of Tolkien or just discovering his work for the first time, "The Hobbit" is a great read! In this summer reading challenge, learners will follow a recommended reading schedule and meet together six times for group discussion. The class will be conducted in a relaxed, book-club style atmosphere, with a teacher-guided discussion of the assigned chapters for the day. Before each class, students will be provided with detailed reading guides to help focus their attention on important events in the story and discussion topics for that day.
