Assessments in this class serve as a vital tool to measure students’ understanding and application of the course material. We offer a variety of assessments, including discussion questions and project-based evaluations. These are conducted periodically throughout the course to ensure consistent learning progress. Most assessments will be completed in-class to facilitate immediate feedback and discussion. While assessments are an integral part of the learning process, they are designed to be inclusive and accommodating of all students’ needs, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge effectively.Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
In this camp, students will discuss superpowers and how coding can be a superpower. They'll build two projects, each focusing on a different superpower. Key concepts studied will include events, operators and conditions. This class has been designed for students ages 9-14 with any level of coding experience - all are welcome! Students will learn: -Editing the properties of the treasure chest objects by changing the code within their parent class. -Using an if / else condition to make the treasure chests transparent or not depending on proximity to the hero. -Defining events in programming and using real life examples to understand the concept better. -Using comparison operators and an "and" operator to set up the basics of the teleporting code. The class will be highly interactive since we cap our classes at 6 students. The teacher will work with students to create a project they can be proud of while answering questions and providing support along the way. Here’s what your student can expect to do during class: - Welcome + Introductions (5 minutes) - Theme lesson (5 minutes) - Code a game in Scratch! (about 40 minutes) - Student Project Showcase + Say Goodbye (5 minutes) > Note for Parents: Your student will need: - a free p5js.org account - Access to a laptop or desktop computer with Zoom installed and screen-sharing enabled - An internet connection of 3mbs+ - A working speaker, microphone and webcam - all Windows and Mac operating systems of the past five years are supported Note: Please make sure an adult is on hand for the first five minutes of class to help set-up and tackle troubleshooting. iPads and tablets are not compatible and will not work for this class. On many occasions the students will be coding the arrow keys on a keyboard.
