（サマーキャンプ）マケドニア王アレクサンダー3世（大王）

(A) Required Experience: 

This is a camp that meets 8 times and is addressed to students who have a basic background on ancient civilizations, and a special interest in the ancient Greek History. It is an *educational* camp, suitable for learners who are genuinely interested in ancient Greek history, motivated to learn more, and willing to follow this camp in order to acquire a deeper knolwedge about Alexander III of Macedon.   To approach this historical figure from the past in an academic way, as well as through a rewarding and amusing process, I will be using throughout this camp ancient Greek and Roman historical sources in English translation, archaeology, art and architecture.

(B) Class Structure

In this five-day journey in ancient Greek history we are going to follow step by step the life of Alexander III as laid out below:

day 1: Rise of Macedonia - Philip II (father of Alexander) - Alexander III as King of Macedon and Hegemon of Greece 

day 2: Alexander III in Asia Minor - From the battle at Granicus river to the battle of Issus river 

day 3: Alexander III in Syria, Phoenicia and Egypt

day 4: Alexander III in Mesopotamia - Battle at Gaugamela -  Alexander III in Persia 

day 5: Alexander III in Central Asia - Alexander a Greco-Persian king! - Alexander III in India - Return to Babylon - Death

(C) Teaching style and students' interaction:

The learning process of this camp is based on a combination of a power-point presentation, a lecture that asks students to participate, class dialogue, questions based on the ongoing lecture, and new ideas based on the dynamic of the group. There is not one universal solution to teach. Rather I combine techniques to achieve the maximum of my strengths and of my students. Having taught so far young kids, teenagers, University students and mature learners, I know that teachers need to approach students with understanding, and that is why I try to keep my classes small (up to 7 students), in order to work with every single one of the participants. After all, a small class has the advantage of binding the group better, and making the combined technique of ppt presentation-lecture-dialogue feasible and efficient. Thanks to Zoom, engaging students and interacting with them is always possible.
