In this short camp / course, young readers and writers about the kindergarten-first grade level will practice beginning English Language Art skills with alternating lessons of reading, writing, listening, and discussion. Every week, learners will practice writing first words, then simple sentences, focusing on correct letter formation, capitals, periods, using the lines as guides, and sounding out words to spell independently. Alternating with the writing lessons will be 4 phonics classes from our full curriculum first grade reading and writing course, 2 decodable story lessons, and 2 teacher-selected reading classes. Each class will have plenty of interaction with the teacher and peers as they discuss words, stories, and phonics sounds as they relate to the lesson. Questions are encouraged, and answers may come from either the teacher or peers. Visuals will be shared on the teacher's screen and should be bright and engaging for all learners.
