Learning goals for each lesson will be clearly stated at the beginning of the lessons. Students will have a deeper appreciation for reading and a broader understanding of the fact that words carry meaning literally and figuratively after taking a few of these classes.

1. Second and Seven Reading Program--In college, I volunteered as a reader to second grade classrooms around the city of Columbus. I read stories to them which were about good qualities of people and led discussions about the books I read.
2. Student Teacher--I student-taught in a second grade classroom and a kindergarten classroom. While in those classrooms, I had many opportunities to read to groups of between 3-25 students at a time and lead discussions. I also helped my mentor teachers create engaging activities for the students to complete which reflect the stories and contents we read about.

Assessment will be very informal with these young students. Progress will be based on in-class discussions, reflections, and participation.

We will be reading a variety of children's books in this class. The books we will be reading each month will be listed in the class description and schedule.
