Regardless of grade level, informational stories can be challenging to understand, especially if a student has no connection to, or prior knowledge of the subject. This comprehension strategy helps students break down a story into parts, which makes it easier to understand the main ideas. Students learn by the "I Do. We Do. You Do." instructional model. For example, the teacher first models the strategy, then helps students practice the technique, offering support as needed. The lesson ends with each student demonstrating the strategy in their writing.
