Only $10 a week! This 8 week course is great for 3rd-6th grade Science or for a fun after school or weekend enrichment class. This is a Flex class, which means that we will not have live meetings. Instead, the student will view pre-recorded lessons each week at their own convenience and then apply what they learned by completing a STEM challenge.The student will post pictures or videos of their completed challenge to the classroom along with any comments or questions for the teacher. Students will also be asked to post a comment on each other's projects each week that states at least one thing they think their peer did well. The teacher will also post a weekly questions for the students to answer based on the concept learned. The teacher will respond weekly through out the course to each individual student. The teacher will post the lesson video and the challenge each week on Sunday evening. Students can watch the lesson, recommended videos, and complete the challenge anytime during the week. Challenge pictures and videos will be due the following Saturday evening. All supplies needed are easy to find at your house or grocery store. See the materials section for a week by week list of supplies. Below is a list of the concepts and challenges by week. Week 1: Engineering and design process. Challenge: Build the tallest spaghetti and marshmallow tower. Week 2: Buoyancy and weight distribution. Challenge: Build an "unsinkable ship" with legos or tin foil. Week 3: Gravity and weight. Challenge: Build a container that will protect an egg when dropped. Week 4: Space saving and balance. Challenge: Build a model house that will balance on only a paper towel roll. Week 5: Recycling and reusing. Challenge: Create something useful from recyclable materials. Week 6: Satellites and their parts. Challenge: Create a satellite from materials around your house. Week 7: Bridge designs: Challenge: Build a Popsicle stick bridge that will hold you Week 8: Simple Machines and chain reactions. Challenge: Build a chain reaction machine like Rube Goldberg.
