Welcome to Spanish with Littles and our Spanish Reading and Conversation Class!

This Spanish class is perfect for students who have some experience with Spanish and are ready to get talking and reading together! This class is appropriate for Advanced Beginner students or Low Intermediate. If you are uncertain if this class is the right fit please feel free to message us and we can always help find another class that is right for your learner. In this class we will have a monthly topic like Food, Weather, All About Me, Hobbies, etc. We will then use that topic to learn a wide variety of vocabulary while always applying the words we learn to real life conversations. We will end each class with a reader that will help children to deepen their understanding of the material and to contextualize what we are learning. Please be aware that these classes do teach grammar but in a natural way so as to support natural language acquisition. Research shows that teaching grammar rules and rote memorization does little to help someone acquire a language so while we will help your child to use Spanish in correct and full sentences the focus of this class is not on grammar.

This class not only provides an amazing class experience but you will also get access to lots of extra learning materials after each class meeting. After each class you receive a worksheet with activities to practice the vocabulary, a link to the song of the month, the Kahoot! Link to practice our review game from home, as well as a PDF of our beginner Spanish reader for that week along with a listen along link to practice those reading skills at home! This class truly provides an amazing class experience as well as so much for you to utilize at home with your littles to keep the learning going!

NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR FIRST CLASS

PARTICIPATION
All students are encouraged to participate but please allow your learner to speak in their own timing. The teacher will provide opportunities but for learning a second language it is important for students to go through the “absorption” phase. Some students will want to speak on day one, but some students will need a little longer. Please message your teacher if you have concerns about your child’s participation.

BEFORE CLASS
Be sure to have zoom downloaded and updated on your device. Make sure you are logged into your Outschool account on that device as Zoom links cannot be shared.
You will receive a PDF (usually sent on Sunday’s) that you can print or use on a tablet for further interaction in the class.
Please have the designated class materials ready before the class meeting.
Please have an extra device available for our game at the end of class (a phone or tablet will work just fine!) If you are unable to use another device you will receive a printout when your child enrolls that you can use during the game.
Please post on our classroom page after you enroll so we can get to know your learner more!

DURING CLASS
Please allow student time to adjust to the class. Not all students will be ready to speak on day one but they are learning!
Be ready to help with the mute/unmute function or other technology issues that may come up.
Please have a quiet learning space.
We will use Kahoot! But it is not necessary to have the app. In fact, the App often has glitches but you will be given a QR code to join during class!

AFTER CLASS
You will receive the game link and an additional PDF to practice more from home.
The class recording will automatically be posted to the classroom page so that you are able to practice from home if you missed class or if you’d like your learner to review.

REFUND POLICY
If you are unable to attend a live meeting you can:
Choose to pause enrollment for that week (your child’s spot in the class may be taken, but you will not be charged for that week and if there is a space open when your pause ends you will automatically en re-enrolled.
Choose to un-enroll from the class and re-enroll when your schedule allows.
Stay enrolled in the class, with the option of viewing the class recording from home, and guarantee your child’s spot in the class.
All changes must be made within 24hr of the class meeting. No refund will be given after 24hr prior to class. If your child is sick please ask to reschedule or view the class recording from home.

ZOOM INTERACTIONS AND SAFETY REMINDERS
All students must have a video check-in during the first 10 minutes of class or they will be placed in the waiting room for safety reasons.
Be sure that your child’s name is displayed in Zoom before logging in.
Please show your student the mute and unmute button or sit close by to assist. If there is distracting noise or background noise your teacher will have to mute your learner but we still want them to be able to participate.
Only the enrolled learner may appear on the video. Parents or siblings need to be out of the camera’s view.
学習到達目標
The goal is for each student to gain a curiosity about the Spanish language in a fun and stress-free environment!

MEET THE TEACHERS

—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Profe Victoria

A little about our founder, Profe Victoria and what brought her to start Spanish with Littles.

Victoria grew up in a bilingual family- her dad was from Quebec and his first language was French. He never spoke French with her growing up though so she missed out on the opportunity to learn French. Even more importantly, she missed out on having a close relationship with her grandparents and many aunts and uncles because of the language barrier. Fast forward, and she was homeschooled but second language classes were not available. she was very interested in other languages and pretended to speak them all the time from a very young age. When she started public school in rural Vermont there was still no opportunity to learn a language. It wasn't until she was 17 that she finally was able to start learning Spanish and fell in love with it immediately. Even since that first Spanish class she has sought to learn more and more Spanish and finds so much joy in helping others learn too!

Profe Victoria, has been teaching since 2015. Victoria has a degree in Spanish with a minor in ESL. She worked as an ESL instructor at a community college from 2018-2019 and has taught language students online since 2018. She has been teaching on Outschool since 2021 providing Spanish lessons for ages 3-9. She also has experience coaching adults, which set her up for success as a leader at Spanish with Littles. Outschool families like yours have been learning Spanish with Profe Victoria for the last three years and their children love the energetic classroom environment she has created!

—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Profe Isis

A little about our newest addition to the Spanish with Littles team, Profe Isis.

Profe Isis is originally from El Salvador. When she was 11 years old, her family moved to the United States. It was challenging for her to learn a new language, but it was fun at the same time. She remembers that those were the most fun classes in school. She would even go to summer school because she liked them so much. Thanks to all her effort and the effort and help from her teachers, she finally learned English and became bilingual. Now that she is a parent she likes to show her kids how useful and fun it is to know more than one language! She gets super excited and thankful every time they ask her what any Spanish word means. She volunteered in an English as a Second Language class for a few years and that gave her a sense of accomplishment, she took it as a chance to give back what she had received in those ESL classes as a student herself. She also had the privilege of working as an interpreter at a hospital which was yet another way to help her community and feel the impact of being bilingual.

Since she became a parent, and her kids became of school age, she has been able to volunteer in her kid’s schools. Before COVID, she volunteered a lot at their schools. While volunteering she came to appreciate the love for learning through kid's eyes. She finds it amazing how quickly they learn! Their love and enthusiasm for learning new things is so mind-blowing and it makes her super excited to be able to be a part of this special process of learning and growing for them! She is also grateful to be able to share how fun and exciting learning a new language can be!

—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Profe Dina

Profe Dina is from Virginia and is currently living in Kansas. Her parents immigrated to the U.S. from El Salvador. Growing up Dina and her parents would travel to El Salvador once every year to see family. It was a very special experience and something she has been able to share with her own children now. Dina’s first language was Spanish and she later learned English once she started kindergarten. Learning a new language was intimidating, but in the end it has had its rewards!

Dina has worked as a translator for the school district, translating for teachers, parents, and students. Being able to translate for the school district has been very rewarding to Dina. It reminds her of when she would have to translate for her own parents growing up. She has also worked as an ELL para at the middle school level and as a Parent Educator in the head start program. Dina graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 2017. Since then, she has had 2 children of her own. Teaching her children about their culture and the language is very important to her. Dina believes that learning a new language opens so many doors and expands one’s world! Dina is super excited to be a part of your child’s language learning journey and hopes it will open many doors, like it has for her!

—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Señor Steele

Steele decided he would teach Spanish from the young age of twelve when his uncle, a professor, visited him and talked about his job. Steele later volunteered to do mission work in Mexico City for the duration of two years and learned all he could about the Spanish language and latin american culture, subjects he fell in love with.

Upon his return, he began studying Spanish Education at Brigham Young University-Idaho while studying a minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). He has worked for the last three years in various jobs that have given him opportunities to be exposed to school settings. He has worked as a paraprofessional in multiple schools in Washington and Idaho. he has also worked as the head coach of the girls soccer program at a middle school in Washington. More recently, he has worked the last three years as a substitute teacher in Idaho and an Intervention Technician for the last two years for kids with special needs.

Steele is passionate about all things Spanish. He loves teaching it, studying it, and most of all, putting it all into practice by returning to Mexico often. Steele is so excited to have your kids enroll in his class and can't wait to be a part of their learning process.

We hope you will join us in the classroom soon!
