Welcome to a safe space where AAC users can make friends and learn Spanish in a way that works for you! In this engaging interactive class, students will participate in songs, this-or-that activities, matching activities, "I Spy," and more to learn a wide variety of basic Spanish vocabulary sets. It is important to note that this is not equivalent to or a replacement for speech therapy. Students should already be familiar with using their AAC devices (though specific proficiencies may vary). This is simply a space to learn new Spanish phrases and vocabulary using AAC devices, not to learn to use the device in general. Instruction will feature AAC pathways/icons to not only teach your child to understand Spanish, but also to use his/her device to communicate bilingually. Language will be made comprehensible on my part through gestures and visuals. Classes are as student-centered as possible. To support students, I: ❤ Provide extra patience and wait-time for formulating student responses 🧡 Allow student interests, goals, and needs to take the lead when planning instructional content 💛 Offer multiple opportunities for student voice and choice in activities 💚 Teach self-advocacy phrases from day 1 such as "Hello," "Thank you," "Yes," "No," "Slower, please," etc. 💙 Create a safe, supportive environment for additional needs such as ADHD, autism, social anxiety, etc. Students will demonstrate comprehension through yes/no questions, either/or questions, pointing to vocabulary items and completing a matching game at the end of class. The class structure will follow the following routine: ❤ Welcome song 🧡 Warm-up/Icebreaker Game 💛 Vocabulary review with AAC icons 💚 Vocabulary comprehension practice with game 💙 Conversation opportunity using new vocabulary 💜 Closing song NOTE: Because this class is private tutoring, it is highly learner-directed. Weekly activities will vary according to your child's particular strengths/challenges, interests and goals. Typically, no special materials will be necessary. 🌟 Sample topics (Mid-Novice Level): 🌟 Week 1: Mexico City Virtual Field Trip (Vocabulary: Places, Grammar: Estar) Week 2: Food Tour of Mexico City (Vocabulary: Food, Grammar: Likes/Dislikes) Week 3: Navigating the CDMX Metro (Vocabulary: Transportation, Grammar: Cardinal Directions) Week 4: Frida Kahlo Art Museum (Vocabulary: Personal Descriptions, Grammar: -Ar Verbs)

While I am most familiar with Unidad pathways and icons, I ask that families that use other devices please reach out to me prior to the start of class so that we can discuss any differences in your child's individual device needs. Third-party tools (Nearpod and LiveWorksheets) will not be used in class except by me. I will screenshare these games and allow students to participate collectively. We may use Canva for drag-and-drop activities, however, these do not require a login. After class, I may post the same activity for students to complete on their own as reinforcement of what we've learned. These activities do not require an account and are optional.
受講の前提条件
No pre-requisites required! Students of all levels are welcome
受講に必要なもの
I ask that parents please communicate before class starts regarding your child's specific device so that I can personalize instruction as much as possible. For Unidad, I am able to provide a list of icons/pathways. For other devices, we may need to collaborate to discover the specific pathway needed to communicate vocabulary items using a "Search for vocabulary" feature. I am always happy to work with families to ensure that your child has everything s/he needs for success!
