週1時間. Optional flashcards and authentic articles and videos will be available. There will be minimal work to do outside of class, however, it is highly suggested that families encourage their children to practice the new vocabulary and concepts outside of the classroom. Practicing outside of class will give students the opportunity to relate the class material to their own life and environment which will help cement the new language in their brains.

Informal assessing will be used during class with optional writing and oral exam at the end of the course.

Spanish 3- Semester 1 Course Information Description-(Middle/High School)

In this 15-week interactive, semester-long Spanish course, we will meet as a group once per week for 45 minutes to learn Spanish. In the class students will develop the ability to understand and communicate in Spanish while playing games and having a ton of fun! Here is what you can expect throughout the course.

Hola! Welcome to my Spanish  course. This course will be great for students that have had TWO years of exposure to Spanish. Students will be able to read, write, speak, and listen in Spanish at an intermediate level after completing this course. I also offer 1:1 private tutoring if they need extra live help. I also offer a full curriculum for Spanish 2 and 3 if you wish to continue down the path of learning Spanish.

I use Google Slides to teach this unit.  I teach with a focus on Comprehensible Input and not grammar since that is not how language is naturally acquired.  Comprehensible input Spanish readers are a game changer in the classroom. Leveled readers in Spanish tell captivating stories and incorporate repetition of high-frequency language making them an extremely effective way to engage students.  We will read a novel entirely in Spanish, have discussions in Spanish and play games/activities to expose students to the target language. Some fun traditional games that we will play are Tic-Tac-Toe, Connect 4, Sorry, Snakes and Ladders and Pictionary. The focus will be on developing skills in the areas of listening, speaking and reading.  

There are TWO class novels for this class.  They are called Bianca Nieves Y Los Siete Toritos and La Llorona de Mazatlan. They are perfect novels to continue building fluency in Spanish because they are filled with common repetitive phrases, structures and vocabulary words to help students acquire the language. 

Bianca Nieves Y Los Siete Toritos  Book Description- Spanish easy reader for advanced learners. Bianca's father is bull fighter, but the real danger lies outside the arena. Will Bianca be able to save her dad?

La Llorona de Mazatlan Book Description- Laney Morales’ dream of playing soccer in Mazatlan, Mexico soon turns into a nightmare, as she discovers that the spine-chilling legends of old may actually be modern mysteries. Friendless and frightened, Laney must endure the eerie cries in the night alone. Why does no one else seem to hear or see the weeping woman in the long white dress? Laney must stop the dreadful visits, even if it means confessing her poor choices and coming face to face with La Llorona de Mazatlán. The low unique word count and high frequency factor (the number of times core structures are embedded in the text) in the Comprehension-based™ reader, ‘La Llorona de Mazatlán’, make this an ideal read for advanced beginning Spanish students. Each page is loaded with cognates (words that are similar in English and Spanish), recycled vocabulary, and illustrations, which makes this read highly comprehensible. Enjoy the story! Class Novel 1- Bianca Nieves Y Los 7 Toritos
Bullfighting is a dangerous sport, and there is nothing more menacing than facing a raging bull in the middle of the ring. All eyes are on the great torero, ‘El Julí,’ as he faces off against the most ferocious bull in the land, but nobody, aside from his daughter, Bianca, seems to notice that his greatest threat walks on two legs, not four. In her attempt to warn and save her father, Bianca soon realizes that fighting an angry bull is much safer than battling greed and deception. These will be our weekly focuses:
Week 1 -  Intro and review basics. Students will learn different ways to greet each other, talk about the weather and calendar and discuss how they feel in Spanish. Discuss bullfighting.

Week 2 - Discuss original Ferdinand the Bull story and start chapter 1 of the book.

Week 3 - Read and discuss chapters 2-3 of Bianca Y Los 7 Toritos.

Week 4 -Read and discuss chapters 4-5 of Bianca Y Los 7 Toritos.

Week 5 Read and discuss chapters 6-7 of Bianca Y Los 7 Toritos.
 
Week  6 - Read and discuss chapters 8-9 of Bianca Y Los 7 Toritos.

Week 7 Read and discuss chapter 10 of Bianca Y Los 7 Toritos.

Week 8- Halloween stories and activities. Introduce Llorona and read chapter 1.

Week 9- Students will read and discuss Chapters 2-3 of novel.

Week 10- Students will read and discuss Chapters 4-5 of novel.

Week 11-Students will read and discuss Chapters 6-7 of novel.

Week 12- Students will read and discuss Chapters 8-9 of novel.

Week  13-- Students will read and discuss Chapters 10-11  of novel.

Week  14-- Students will read and discuss Chapter 12-13 of novel.

Week 15- Students will read and discuss Chapter 14 of novel and take assessment.

Students will acquire the Spanish language naturally while having fun reading stories in Spanish,  learning new vocabulary words, and playing traditional games to reinforce vocabulary. This class will help students become more fluent and confident in the language.  This class will also help students prepare for the national AAPPl language test (I do not administer this exam).  The AAPPL test Exam is used to assess a student's proficiency in the language.  Students that score high enough will be awarded the bi literacy seal.

Conjuguemos- this site will be used to practice verb conjugation Youtube- I use this platform to share educational videos via screensharing. Quizlet will be used to offer students optional flashcard practice. The topics of bullfighting and La Llorona legends (about a spirit) are covered during the class novels
