Hello, I am Michael Calahan and I use LEGO Bricks and LEGO Technic elements to instruct and explore all things STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). I started Rocket Science for Kids to help students explore learning through LEGO in 2006. Rocket Science for Kids mobilized LEGO Education to extend beyond the standard classroom setting. We offered in-class field trips, summer and day camps, as well as interactive event planning for audiences of 200 parents and students. Interacting with students about simple machines, gears, levers, and motors is how I prefer to spend my days. An office setting never thrilled me as much as LEGO and exploring its possibilities. I began working in the retail toy industry twenty years ago. The ability to interact directly with the consumer/learner is why I started Rocket Science for Kids. I volunteer with FLL (First LEGO League) as the regional Head judge for my area. I am also a member of AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO) and have the privilege of teaching robotics to the local Boys and Girls Club. I am also a LEGO Education Academy Certified Trainer.

Many of my students find it exciting to connect with a structure or simple machine and learn how it moves and operates. We spend time exploring the everyday machines in our lives, like the auto-lift feature on the trunks of cars or the cranes at construction sites. I'm the instructor who geeks out when it comes to all things with movement, my family is glad that I have others to share this interest with. My classes will explore robotics, structures, simple machines, programming, and coding. We will discuss building, innovation, and troubleshooting issues. These components will help your student creatively innovate new and more complex LEGO builds.

My objective is to introduce your child to LEGO Technic or help them continue to expand their LEGO investment. The students are encouraged to develop team collaboration, ask questions, and engage others who want to explore topics that interest them. My classroom and STEAM education appreciate all cultures and all learning types. Our classroom is a safe space for your student.
