このクラスで学べること

This class is for beginning recorder players who would like to study in a small group setting (3-6 students).  No prior knowledge is required. This class size enables students to get personalized help from the teacher and also get to know their fellow learners using teacher-led icebreaker activities.  We will work through a teacher-created slide presentation during class, and students will be given class notes to review and practice in between classes.  Students will have practice time during class and time to receive individualized support from the teacher.  Each week, we will learn about how to read music notation and use this to read and play 1-2 new songs.

The following songs will be learned each week:

Week 1: Intro to recorder and notes BAG
Week 2: Hot Cross Buns
Week 3: Pierrot / Mary Had a Little Lamb 
Week 4: It's Raining, It's Pouring
Week 5: Old MacDonald Had a Farm
Week 6: Scotland's Burning

Students will continue to develop their musicianship skills as they learn new songs each week to add to their repertoire.  Students will be able to show weekly progress.

Students will need their own soprano recorder (made of wood or plastic).

Many inexpensive starter instruments can be found online. Please be advised that some "toy" instruments, sold by dollar stores, etc., are made to look like recorders but will not function properly.  Message me if you would like assistance in selecting an instrument, and I am happy to help you find a recommended brand.

Hello!  My name is Tara and I am a music teacher and mom in Florida, USA.  I have been a school music teacher and private lesson instructor for 15 years, and I love what I do!  I currently teach early childhood music at a K-8 school, as well as individual lessons in voice, guitar, piano, and ukulele. I also conduct a children's choir in my home community.

I have a Master of Music Education and Bachelor of Music Education, both from Florida State University.  I have taught Pre-K through 12th grade music full time in Florida and Massachusetts schools, and hold teaching certificates in both states. I am proud that my educational background is focused on pedagogy, not just performance.

I believe that music is for every child, and every child is musical.  There is a common misconception that musical ability is something people either have or "don't."  Music can be taught and learned, just like any skill.  Every child has music to share, and I want to help them nurture it.  Music lessons are never "one size fits all" -- I am always creating instructional materials that suit the needs and interests of a particular student.
