What will be taught?

We will cover what is a contract, how is it formed, what are ways that contracts don't actually form, what happens when someone "breaks" the contract, and what are the consequences of doing so. Contract law is usually covered in two semesters in law school, but we will do a general overview in this 12-week class. Month 1: Common law contract formation and special issues; Month 2: UCC Contract formation and special issues; Month 3: Breach of contract and Remedies

How is this class structured:

We will begin the class with Socratic-style questions to get them pondering about the topic at hand. We will then learn the general legal principles behind the topic. We will expand on those general principles by reviewing case law that ruled on various nuances. Students will be able to ask questions and pose their own hypothetical scenarios for discussion. We will test their understanding with hypothetical questions similar to those asked in law school exams.

How will I teach/What is my teaching style?

I like to have a dialogue with my students. I often ask Socratic-style questions to help the students arrive at the answer on their own. When I share information, I test for understanding and implementation by asking students to analyze hypothetical scenarios. All of this is similar to how classes are conducted in law school!
