- What will be taught, and what topics will you cover?

Screenwriting: format, storytelling, how to make compelling characters, how to pitch a movie, how to summarize a movie (also making a treatment of a movie, which is a longer summary), additional materials you'll need to write surrounding your screenplay itself, and finally, how scripts translate from page to screen!

- How is your class structured?

This will vary a little depending on if the student has prior knowledge of the subject. But basically, we will spend the first session or two on format and ideas, the second couple sessions on content and structure, and then refining the process from there. It will be a bit like a writer and editor session.

- How will you teach?

I will be as hands-on or as hands-off in the writing process as the student desires! It's really different for every writer.

- What's your teaching style?

Again, it truly depends on the student. Some kids (and adults) are super type-A and love to take an idea and run with it right away. My job is just to hone and shape what they do and help them make it its best! Others are shy and need more hand-holding / help to get going. I am higher-energy with the first type, quieter but more hands-on with the second type. And of course every new student is different in their needs!

- How much will learners get to interact with you?

100% of the time, since this is a private class.

- Any required experience or knowledge learners need?

Not at all, but fine if they have it!

Hello, everyone! Bonjour, tout le monde! I'm Nicola, and I've been teaching and tutoring professionally since 2011. I teach three subjects professionally: French, writing, and screenwriting. That's right — I really am both a professional French teacher and a professional writer and filmmaker! I have private students in all of the above subjects.

I have my bachelor's degree from Columbia University and my master's degree from the Sorbonne-Nouvelle University in France. I lived in France for years and am fully bilingual in English and French. I am always happy to provide references from students who have loved working with me!

I believe having fun and feeling relaxed are key to learning. The more relaxed and open you are, the better you're going to do, whether you're learning to pronounce French R's and U's, or learning to write complex characters and exciting plots!
