このクラスで学べること

Students can participate in Outschool's STEAM theme for the month of June by conducting a Soap Powered Boat experiment in this class. We will follow the steps in the scientific method and our record results on the "My Science Experiment" worksheet. Students will ask a question related to the experiment, form a hypothesis, conduct the experiment, draw a picture of their observations, record the results and form a conclusion. We will discuss the variables and brainstorm alternative variables in order to conduct the experiment again and possibly obtain different results.

PLEASE READ THIS: Help from an adult is necessary, so please be near by. (filling/refilling the tray with water, cutting the boat, holding the dish soap, writing on the observation sheet). It helps if your learner knows how to move their camera to show their work space. Otherwise, I can not see their table or what they are doing.

Materials needed: See the main image from the class listing for ideas
1. Foam tray, index card or a piece of cardboard for the boat. Cardstock greeting cards work great!
2. Tray, bowl or cake pan filled with about 1 inch of cold water
3. Liquid dish soap (I use a small syringe partially filled with dish soap. You can too, if you have one.)
4. Scissors, ruler, pencil
5. The "My Science Experiment" worksheet (printed before class)

An adult should pour the cold water into the tray before class begins and set it off to the side so there is a space to write on the observation sheet. Younger students might need help writing on their "My Science Experiment" worksheet, cutting their boat or adding one drop of dish soap, so an adult should be nearby. Parents- If your learner is the only one in class, you may remain on camera. But if their are other learners, per Outschool's Safety policy, you should sit off camera to the side of your learner.
