Please note: As I work together with learners in this class, I’ll be offering both encouragement and helpful feedback. I may sometimes suggest that students make adjustments to their drawings so they can better apply the techniques we’re learning. Students should think of this as a way to grow their skills and sharpen their artistic eyes. I'm here to support them every step of the way! 

In this 7-week course, students will learn how to create realistic pencil drawings. Using engaging PowerPoint presentations and live demonstrations via a document camera, I will encourage students to draw along with me while observing real-life objects. I'll offer tips and techniques as we work together on each exercise. I will also provide occasional worksheets for students to use in class for practice and instruction.

My goal is for students to develop an “eye” for realistic rendering by focusing on shape, shading, and texture. We’ll also study proportions, value, and linear perspective so that the learners' eyes and hands can work together to create accurate, three-dimensional forms on the page.

While graphite pencil will be our main tool in this class, students will be introduced to general art techniques that can later translate across various media. No prior experience is required - students who are eager to grow their skills and develop strong drawing habits, and willing to focus and practice, will gain the most from this course.
