In this level 1 reading workshop, students will identify and practice reading key word families through a four R's strategy: 1) Recognition 2) Repetition 3) Relevance 4) Reading 🔑 This word families workshop is a great way to extend Kindergarten reading fluency, develop and challenge 1st grade, and strengthen and build on foundational reading skills for 2nd. This is an ongoing class, fixed in a 10-week scheduled loop due to skill patterns and slight increase in difficulty. This workshop will meet 1x/week for 30 minutes, for 10 weeks. Feel free to enroll your learner at any time. Likewise for un-enrollment if you believe that another reading workshop or level is more appropriate for your learner. Please feel free to ask questions. Thank you! Week 1: [at] [an] Week 2: [et] [en] Week 3: [it] [in] Week 4: [ot] [og] [op] Week 5: [ut] [un] [ug] Week 6: [ack] Week 7: [ick] Week 8: [ock] Week 9: [uck] Week 10: [all] [alk] Class Routine: 1) Recognize: Students will be introduced to a common word family of 2-letters and recognize which words out of a group belong to this word family. Students will recognize word families in short stories. 2) Repeat: Students will sort words according to their word families. Students will practice keeping their word family the same and changing the other letters to form new words. 3) Relate: Students will reflect on the word and its connection to their experiences. Students will have the opportunity to share their relation to the word. 4) Read: Students will read rhyming words and create a list as a whole class of words that belong to each of today's 3 word families. This is a great reference for students to practice what they've learned at home. *This workshop is designed for learners who are at a developing intermediate reader level, level 1- level 2. Students should have existing knowledge of alphabet letter names, sounds, and early sight words/high frequency words (can be found by grade level for free online). For students that need level 2, please check out the level 2 skill workshop "Word Building."

教師の専門知識と資格
Hi! I'm Ms. Chapman and I have spent the past 8 years teaching school-aged children how to read! I have incorporated individualized educational plan strategies, behavioral therapy strategies, and public school strategies to create as realistic-as-possible fun and engaging online reading class! I call myself a reading specialist, but you can just call me Ms. Chapman or Ms. C. I love to read and I will happily help your student learn to read, and hopefully they, too, will love reading one day! Either way, learning to read with me is always an experience that has allowed my students to better engage in their future classrooms and find success completing their next grade-level expectations in all subjects, in addition to English and Literature.
