Reading Comprehension is essential to school and life. When a student struggles to read fluently, comprehend what they are reading, or retain what they are reading, they will struggle in school. Understanding and retaining what we read is essential for academic success. Whether your child needs to catch up, keep up, or get ahead this summer, this class will help build and 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬. Want to give this class a try? Use code LEARNWS73F3 to save $3 today! *No printouts are needed before class. Optional practice worksheets are provided after each class to reinforce each new skill taught, and teacher/parent communication is important to us. This 5-day class is highly interactive, with plenty of opportunities for your child to participate. Each session starts with an engaging introduction to a specific reading comprehension skill. After introducing the skill, we move into applying this skill as we read fiction and non-fiction stories together. Your child will take turns reading aloud, followed by discussions and questions to strengthen their understanding of what they read. If your child needs more practice, this class is also offered in a weekly, ongoing format that covers more reading comprehension skills. The skills covered in the class include finding the details and main idea, learning how to infer information, using context clues to figure out unfamiliar vocabulary, and analyzing character traits. Each class is aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Please see the chart below for the exact details of each standard. As your child reads, we will assist them with pronunciation, fluency, and proper reading techniques. The reading material provided in class is on the 4th-grade reading level, making this class appropriate for on-level 4th graders, third graders that need a challenge, or fifth graders that need a little extra assistance. We teach "Practice Makes Progress!" After each class, we provide you with the details of what was taught as well as after-class practice for your child. This practice is not graded by us, but the answers are included, allowing you to assess the student at home as well. As teachers and parents, we understand the importance of communication between parents and teachers. We communicate with parents regularly to share our feedback and suggestions. We encourage you to contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns. We are here for you and your students. Please check your communication settings so you will be notified when correspondence is sent. We are friendly, patient, and encouraging teachers who meet students where they are academically to help them see success. Don't just take our word for it, check out our reviews! Happy Reading! Happy Learning!
