This one-time guided reading lesson serves as an introduction to the concept of cause and effect. Students will engage in a brief ice-breaker, learn the definition of cause and effect, and observe as I model how to identify cause and effect in a fictional text. The students will have the chance to practice identifying cause and effect in fictional text. Students should be able to read a level 30 (3rd-grade text) independently. The student will identify cause and effect relationships in fictional texts.
Students will need a pencil and a piece of paper. I will use "No More Thirsty Crops" from Reading A-Z for the demonstration lesson. The text, "Kid Inventors" from Reading A-Z, will be read by the students and can be downloaded and printed at the following link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Q0uJxi0GMFsCuMmD4F-d2V8zzl8TPBc0/view?usp=sharing. Your child can also use the link to access the article during class.
