  • Students will learn to play piano pieces of increasing difficulty as we work through a piano repertoire book, as well as learning music theory, technique, sight reading and ear training. Private piano lessons are 1-on-1 lessons which progressively work through materials advancing with the student according to their age, abilities, and time spent practicing and learning the materials presented in lessons. If students wish to continue lessons after completing the current piano book, they can continue working through additional grade levels that build upon the previous material. More advanced students may be able to prepare for the practical and theoretical exams of The Royal Conservatory of Music if they so desire. I'm happy to answer questions regarding ongoing piano lessons.
I'm a full-time professional private music instructor with over 25 years of experience providing private music lessons in classical and jazz Piano and theory for students ages seven and up. I'm Royal Conservatory of Music certified for teaching piano and theory and have a special certification for teaching music online. I hold an elementary teaching certificate from The Royal Conservatory of Music and have an advanced teacher certification from the RCM for preparing students for the practical and theoretical exams of The Royal Conservatory of Music for both beginner and advanced students. I studied Orchestration for Film and Television in addition to Music Production through Bostons Berklee College of Music Online. I'm a member of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), where I served as a category judge for the Canadian National Music Awards (JUNO's) for many years, as well as a member of The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) and the Canadian League of Composers (CLC).

詳細: Students should practice their piano pieces for 15-30 minutes 3-4 times weekly, depending on their grade level. Usually, students work on one to two pieces of music a week unless the student requests more. The number of piano pieces depends on the student's abilities and how they like to work. More advanced students may require longer practice times as there will be more material to practice and work through.
Textbook (required): Piano books will be discussed at our initial meeting and assessment to ensure we have the appropriate material to start or continue music studies. Parents and students can purchase the required piano or theory books from most local music stores and online retailers.

Piano or Keyboard: Students will need access to a piano or five-octave (61-key) electronic keyboard during their lessons and for weekly lessons and practice.

Writing Supplies: Pencil and eraser
This course does not require outside apps or learning content management sources other than those offered by Outschool; students only need the required piano books discussed at our original meeting, a pencil, an eraser, and a working piano or 61-note electronic keyboard to take lessons.
