Pre-Algebra is the bridge between Elementary math and Algebra. These lessons build the foundation of basic arithmetic skills and introduce algebraic concepts to students. Each lesson follows the National Course Standards for Pre-Algebra. This Pre-Algebra class will meet for two 45 minute sessions each week, and students will be given homework after each class. This class is "ongoing," which means that students can join for the entire 36 weeks or come and join us for specific topics as needed. This format gives parents flexibility without having to commit to an entire year-long course. Students can join to get additional instruction or support for a specific math topic, or students can join each week and be exposed to all of the Pre-Algebra standards. Students are charged weekly and can enroll or withdraw at any time. Classes are taught by a retired math teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience. Students will learn through direct instruction, cooperative groups, manipulatives, formula sheets, and worksheets. This course prepares students to be mathematically literate, as well as preparing them for future math courses, including Algebra I. Students will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout class. This class is kept to eight students or less to ensure each student has a chance to participate in the discussion. Lessons are taught using Google Slides, and note taking tips are also discussed. Students will have a small amount of work to complete outside of class. More work to reinforce a lesson can/may be given if an individual student needs extra practice.
