This course will introduce the concept of Political Cartoons: why have we found humor in drawings? When did they begin? Were they always funny? Most of the class will focus upon political cartoons from the last twenty years, but time will be spent discussing the history of these cartoons in media, both in the United States, and in foreign countries. Students will be encouraged to create and share their own political cartoons about issues they feel strongly about or are interested in.

Students will learn about controversial political issues.
Although some of these topics can be sensitive to some students and their families, all discussions will take place in an open, honest, and supportive manner.
Parents are encouraged to reach out to the teacher about potentially triggering topics.

Students can create their cartoons by hand, or using online programs, as their parents see fit.
