This is a five session class designed to prepare students to excel in a future high school physics course. The class consist of five 90-minute face-to-face sessions and assigned Minds on Physics© game modules played outside of class. Minds on Physics© functions as homework for practice and assessments for feedback. Students and parents will receive weekly progress updates. Access to a one-year subscription for Minds on Physics© is provided for all students. Face-to-face, synchronous learning, will be an inquiry-based discovery of physics concepts through the creation and analysis of visual, graphical, and mathematical models. Experiments will be designed and data will be collected through virtual web-based interactives. Google Sheets will be used to create graphical models of data collected. Students will present the models to each other for peer review, then test the models for their predictive abilities. [This process meets the curricular competencies of: questioning and predicting; planning and conducting; processing and analyzing data and information; evaluating; applying and innovating; and communicating.] Students will be supplied with resources to explain and support the physics concepts developed and tested during the inquiry portion of class time. Homework and Assessments of Understanding will be done asynchronously through the Sudden Death (for credit) mode of the Minds on Physics© application (MOPs). Test it out by clicking on this link: https://www.physicsclassroom.com/mop/Kinematic-Concepts/Scalars-and-Vectors/Mission-KC1 The Class Syllabus is as follows: First Class - Face2Face: Introduction to the physics of uniform motion through: experimental design graphical methods used in physics mathematical modeling. Concept review: scaler and vector quantities distance and displacement speed and velocity MOPs: Mission KC1: Scalars and Vectors Mission KC2: Distance and Displacement Mission KC3: Speed and Velocity Mission KG1: Basics of Position-Time Graphs, Mission KG4: Slope Calculations for Position-Time Graphs Second Class - Face2Face: Introduction to the physics of accelerated motion through: experimental design graphical methods used in physics mathematical modeling. Concept review: uniform and accelerated motion graphical, visual, and mathematical models of motion MOPs: Mission KC4: Acceleration Mission KC5: Oil Drop Representations Mission KC8: Position-Time and Velocity-Time Data Mission KG1: Basics of Position-Time Graphs Mission KG2: Shape and Slope of Position-Time Graphs Mission KG3: Matching Motion and Shape on a Position-Time Graph, Third Class - Face2Face: Deep-dive into vector analysis of velocity and acceleration application of kinematic equations. Concept review: uniform and accelerated motion graphical, visual, and mathematical models of motion MOPs: Mission KG4: Slope Calculations for Position-Time Graphs Mission KG5: Basics of Velocity-Time Graphs Mission KG6: Interpreting Velocity-Time Graphs Mission KG7: Interpreting Velocity-Time Graphs 2 Mission KG8: Slope and Area of a Velocity-Time Graph Mission KG9: Graphs and Oil Drop Diagrams Mission KG10: Common Misconceptions Concerning Motion Graphs Mission KG10: Common Misconceptions Concerning Motion Graphs Fourth Class - Face2Face: Introduction to free-fall and 2D motion the kinematic equations in 2D Concept review: Vector addition component and resultant vectors trigonometry in physics MOPs: Mission VP1: Vector Direction Mission VP2: Vector Addition Diagrams Mission VP3: Vector Addition Applications Mission VP4: Adding Right Angle Vectors Mission VP5: Vector Components Fifth Class - Face2Face: The three types of projectile motion Vertical Horizontal Angled Concept review: the problem solving process Your Physics Tool Box setting yourself up for success MOPs: Mission VP6: Relative Velocity and River Boats Mission VP7: The Nature of a Projectile Mission VP8: The Acceleration and Velocity of a Projectile Mission VP9: Velocity Components for a Projectile Mission VP9: Velocity Components for a Projectile
