Students will learn different strategies for helping them learn to identify all 24 letters and their sounds to work towards the goal of making words with the short a vowel sounds with different word families like cat, bat, fat, pat, mat or bag, wag, tag, lag, sag. Students will also begin working on memorizing Fry's First 100 Sight Words. Both of these skills will help students with reading, recognizing, and spelling their sight words and short a CVC words.

Learners will be working on a personal student alphabet booklet/ student dictionary. Students will add new sight words to their dictionary in class. Parents may need to assist students with this by helping them cut out the letters or sight words sent out in each weekly packet to add to the personal student alphabet book. Students can also add in words that we make together in class or that they see around them that begins with that letter. Students can also make their own flashcards with parents at home to practice the week's sight words.
