フォニックス：子音連結と二重音字、読むための文字音の学習

This is a once-a-week, ongoing class where students will practice consonant blends and digraphs.  As children learn the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make they are then able to blend those sounds together to form words.  Many of our words start or finish with consonant blends, such as “bl” - blue, blow, blink, or “st” - last, star, past.)  In these blends, both letters have a distinct sound that we blend together.  Working on these consonant blends will help students grow in their ability to sound out and read words.  Digraphs, when two letters create only one sound, such as “ch”, “sh”, and "ea", are also extremely important to know when sounding out words, as students need to be able to recognize them and their sound, instead of blending the individual letter sounds.  In each class we will learn and practice a few different consonant blends or digraphs, and look at some of the words that contain these blends/digraphs, focusing on sounding out the word so that your learners can grow in their reading abilities.   This class will use visual aids and props, games, and activities to help students learn and practice.

A student can join this course at any time as each class can stand alone, working on the specific consonant blends or digraphs for that particular class.

Once we have covered all of the material we will start the cycle over.  This ensures that no matter when your learner joins if they continue on, they will eventually go through each lesson.

If your student is able to bring a pencil, pen or marker and paper, or a whiteboard, marker, and eraser to class to practice writing the blends and digraphs that would be great.
