What will your child learn?
In this class your child can expect to learn how to sort and read words following specific spelling/phonics patterns. We will begin with beginning sounds and work our way through cvc (consonant vowel consonant), blends, and digraphs.

Why is this class important?
Decoding  is an essential skill that has a direct impact on reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension of text.  The task of decoding or pronouncing longer words is often a challenge for many students.

How will I teach?
I teach using the I Do, We Do, You Do structure.
This structure works because it allows the students to see how something is done, practice together with the teacher, and finally practice on their own.

Materials needed: students will need to print the provided sorts each week before class begins. Students will also need a pair of scissors.

Your child will be able to apply the skills learned in the class immediately!

November 8: beginning consonants t, g, n, p
November 15: beginning consonants c, h, f, d
November 22: beginning consonants l, k, j, w
November 29: beginning consonants y, z, w
December 6: at word family
December 13: an and ad word families
December 20: ap and ag word families
December 27: op ot, og word families
January 3: et, eg, en word families
January 10: ug, ut, un word families
January 17: ip, ig, ill word families
January 24: s, h, sh digraph
January 31: c, h, ch digraph
Feb 7: h, sh, ch digraphs
Feb 14: th and wh digraphs
Feb 21: sh, ch, th, wh digraphs
Feb 28: s, t, st blend
March 7: sp, so, sm blends
March 14: sc, an, sw blends
March 21: p, l, pl blends
March 28: pl, sl, bl blends
April 4: cr, cl, fl, for blends
April 11: bl, br, gr, gl blends
April 18: pr, tr, dr blends

Hello and thank you for taking the time to view my profile!

I teach phonics and math classes here on Outschool.

Reading can be tricky for some students. When students learn about the science of reading, you will see their abilities grow! I firmly believe that phonics instruction should include hand gestures and repetition, and that is exactly what happens in my classes.

Math can be intimidating to students.  When problems are based on real-world scenarios, students are able to relate and solve them with a fresh perspective.

I have 14 years of teaching experience in public schools from kindergarten through third grade.  

I believe that ALL students can learn when provided with the proper tools and strategies.

I am the mother of two amazing boys who are my world!  
We enjoy playing card games as a family and traveling.
