ペンマンシップ パルズ: 活字体操と細かい運動技能の練習 (13 ～ 18 歳)

Each time we meet, we will work on a project. This will include making lists; creating correspondence; and copying poetry, song lyrics, quotes, and other materials -- in their entirety or portions thereof -- in print handwriting. Learners will also have an opportunity to suggest material to be copied or listed. Most of the projects will be completed in print handwriting; but for fun and variety, we will sometimes exercise fine motor skills by writing in a different font, a language other than English, or codes and symbols.

Projects for each class are listed below but may also be customized based on the interest and suggestion of the learners in attendance that day.

Week of Feb. 3
We will copy quotes by and about German forestry educator Carl Alwin Schenck (1868-1955).

Week of Feb. 10
We will make a list of migratory animals (caribou, sea turtle, Monarch butterfly, and others).

Week of Feb. 17
We will copy the lyrics of the traditional Canadian folk song “Land of the Silver Birch.”

Week of Feb. 24
We will copy the poem, “If….” by English novelist and poet Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936).

Week of March 3
We will copy the quotes of William Sanford Nye, host of the TV show “Bill Nye the Science Guy.”

Week of March 10
Fine motor skills practice: Write words and sentences in a Star Wars fictional language (Basic, droidspeak, Ewokese, or Huttese). 

Week of March 17
We will copy the lyrics of the traditional New Zealand folk song, “Pauatahanui.”

Week of March 24
We will copy the poem, “The Road Not Taken,” by American poet Robert Frost (1874-1963).

Week of March 31
We will copy the quotes of fictional schoolteacher Ms. Frizzle of “The Magic School Bus.”

SPRING BREAK – No Penmanship Pals classes the Week of Mon.-Sun., April 7-13

Week of April 14
We will make a list of “10 Parks That Changed America” from the 2016 PBS series that featured urban parks.

Week of April 21
We will copy the lyrics – in Welsh and English – to the unofficial national anthem of Wales, "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" ("Land of My Fathers"), lyrics by Evan James (1856).

Week of April 28
We will copy one or two poems by American poet Myra Viola Wilds from her poetry collection Thoughts of Idle Hours (1915).

Week of May 5
We will make a list of Festivals Around the World (La Tomatina in Spain; Albuquerque International Balloon Festival in New Mexico, U.S.A.)

Week of May 12
We will copy the quotes of Italian polymath Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (1452 – 1519).

Week of May 19
We will make a list of the most famous paintings in the world.

Week of May 26
We will copy a portion of the Declaration of Sentiments, a document signed in 1848 at the first women’s rights convention to be organized by women.

We will make a list of different types of hats.

Week of June 16
We will copy the quotes of American social reformer and abolitionist Frederick Douglass (1818-95).
