このクラスで学べること
This class is meant to be a fun social experience for learners to interact with each other and talk about various tabletop miniature based games while painting some of their models. This will be a positive and supportive learning environment for miniature painters of all levels. Each class will start with a lesson on the basics of miniature painting aimed at improving the skills needs to create clean, well-painted models. The class will focus on skills such as base coating, highlighting, washing, glazing dry brushing, blending, color theory and more. This class applies to any games using tabletop models, especially models for D&D, Warhammer, Superheroes, etc. To participate in this class, students should have at least 2-3 unpainted models, a set of brushes and paints. If students want to take their painting skills to the next level, a list of other (optional) supplies can be provided to learners that enrol in the class. The schedule for the class will be as follows: Day 1: Introduction to the tools of the trade, a look at the different types of paint, model colour theory, how to base coat. Day 2: Introduction to shading, blending and dry brushing techniques. Day 3: Using layering, contrast painting, glazing and highlighting to make your models "pop". Day 4: The art of designing bases, an introduction to technical painting (creating effects like slime, rust and glowing). This class will also be used for all remaining student questions and a chance for learners to show off their models. If you have any questions about supplies or need some recommendations on products before you enrol, please let me know, and I'll be happy to help.

教師の専門知識と資格
Hello Everyone,
My name is Matt and I am have been teaching middle and high school STEM classes for 15 years in Ontario, Canada. In 2009, I was also lucky enough to have the opportunity to teach Science classes at an international school in Kuwait for two years.
My educational background is in Zoology and Evolutionary Biology (B.Sc) where I focused intensively on herpetology (the study of reptiles and amphibians). I have worked at several zoos over the years (in the education and conservation departments) often planning public outreach educational programming related to reptiles and other animals.
I also have a Master's of Education in Global Leadership and I am passionate about teaching science and connecting the concepts we learn to real-life. The PD that I have focused on over the last 5 years has included high level project based learning concepts which I used in my classes extensively.
I currently teach middle school science and AP level Biology at an independent school outside of Toronto, Canada. My educational philosophy is rooted in hands-on and experiential education. I always ensure that my classes have a large experiential component to them and students are actively involved in the class. I am a huge supporter of problem solving in the classroom and very often use the design thinking process to facilitate learning, no matter what topic we are studying.
Over the course of my teaching career, I have been awarded the "Innovation in Pedagogy" Award from the BHNCDSB as well as the Teaching Travel Grant Award (which I used to study Permaculture in Argentina).
I hope to see you in class soon!
Matt
