In this class, students will practice blending words, learn sight words, and read simple sentences. Students will practice their early reading skills through games. Class size will be kept small (limit of 5 learners per section) so that all students have ample opportunities for practice. A typical class is structured as follows: 5 minutes: Phonemic awareness 5 minutes: Sound review and focus sound 10 minutes: Word and simple sentence reading practice/game 5 minutes: Sight word practice (if time) This class is geared toward struggling readers, but would also be beneficial for a new reader. We will be following the structure of the "Phonics First" reading curriculum, an Orton-Gillingham-based, structured literacy program. We will be including multi-sensory methods to help all learning styles retain what is learned. Please see the supplies section to ensure your child is prepared for class. Prior Knowledge: Students should know all letter names and sounds, and be able to read CVC words. As long as they have those prerequisite skills they can join the class at any time and be successful. ***Is this class right for your child?*** Do they know most of their letters? Are they able to blend some cvc words (such as cat, bug, etc.) Can they read and write all of these words independently? ship, chat, when, thug, quick, hops If they can, this class will be too easy. Please enroll in step 2. Weekly Phonics Focus Week 1 (October 24): short vowel review (a/e/i) Week 2 (October 31): short vowel review (o/u) Week 3 (November 7): digraphs: ck/qu Week 4 (November 14): digraphs: ch/sh Week 5 (November 21): digraphs: th/review Week 6 (November 28): adding s

教師の専門知識と資格
Welcome to my class! I am an early childhood educator with 15 years of teaching experience.
I have a dual bachelor's degree in early childhood and elementary education from Weber State University. I have also received additional certificates in teaching reading, ESL, and Orton Gillingham instruction. I taught public school Kindergarten for 5 years, First Grade for 7 years, Second Grade for 1 year, and Adult ESL for 2 years. I then taught English as a Second Language to children around the world for 4 years. I love teaching online and I have a vast amount of experience in making my virtual classroom a place of learning and fun.
While most of my classes will be for young children I also love math and the challenge it presents so I hope to incorporate my love of algebra into some of our classes. I'm an avid knitter and have written and published several knitting patterns so I may teach a knitting class or two also!
Whether it's knitting, reading, writing, math, or one of my many other interests, I always bring multiple modalities into the classroom. We will sing, talk, and laugh. I incorporate movement, games, and images into my classroom.
I believe that the most important thing to help students learn is the connection they feel with the teacher. When students know that their teacher cares about them they want to work hard and succeed.
A little more about me: I live in a rural area of Utah. We have two dogs, one cat, and 12 chickens. I have five daughters, ages 15, 13, 7,4. and 2. I love to read, knit, and bake. I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
