In this three session class, students will learn through PowerPoint, discussion, and hands on application.  
Topics to be covered in this class #1 will be:
   1.  Elements of a Story
      What is the story's theme?
      Who are the characters?  Protagonist?  Antagonist? Traits?
      What is the story's conflict? Man vs Man
      What is the story's plot? 
 2.  The Elements of a Fairy Tale are:
     Magic
     Takes Place in the Past
     Clear Good vs Evil
     Enchanted Locations
     Royalty
     Adventure
  3. Using the provided story map, students will outline their own six chapter Sstory.
  4. Begin writing an original fairy tale using the information covered in class.

Class #2
Students will continue writing their original six chapter fairytale following the story map.

Class #3
In this final class, students will put the finishing touches on their story and share their original tale with the others.

In addition to learning about the 4 traditional elements of a story (Theme, Plot, Conflict, and Character),  the elements of a fairy tale, and character types, students will learn about and follow a three character fairytale story map.  
Title of Story
Chapter 1- Introduce setting, characters, and regular life.  Then something HAPPENS!  This happening changes everything!
Chapter 2- The main character responds  to happening. Adventure begins.
Chapter 3- The main character meets the Buddy. Buddy joins adventure.
Chapter 4- The main character and the Buddy meet the Villain and lose!  
Chapter 5- The main character/Buddy meet Villain again and win!
Chapter 6- The villain is no longer a threat.  Things return to normal … only better. The main character and Buddy learned important lessons. Here is where themes comes in.

In addition to being a middle/upper school theatre educator of 30 years, I am also a published writer.  My academic articles have been published locally, regionally, and nationally.  My theatrical works have been performed in a majority of the 50 states and internationally.  My published plays have been produced in Crete, South Africa, Brazil, England, Canada, and China.  I teach playwrighting to my 6th and 8th-grade classes.  I also teach fairytales, folktales, fables, and myths.
