Learners will need to purchase two instructional books after the first class. These are: "Oboe Student", Level One (Elementary) by Blaine Edlefsen in collaboration with Fred Weber, Student Instrumental Course, published by Belwin - under $8.00 online "Tunes for Oboe Technic" Level One (Elementary) by Blaine Edlefsen in collaboration with Fred Weber, Student Instrumental Course, published by Belwin - under $8.00 online Learners will also need to have an oboe in good condition as well as an oboe reed. For reeds, I recommend the company, "Wildflower Reeds" online. These are are high quality reeds made completely by hand by an expert reed maker, and are well worth the price of $32.00. Having an excellent reed is a key part of playing with good technique and making a beautiful sound. An intermediate level, medium soft reed is a good place to start for most students.

🔹 Began playing oboe at age 11; quickly fell in love with its unique sound.
🔹Performed with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra in high school, touring Europe and the Middle East.
🔹Earned a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree and a Master of Music Degree in Oboe Performance from SUNY/Stony Brook, studied with renowned oboists Ronald Roseman and Stephen Taylor. Attended Amherst College for two years. BA from Sarah Lawrence College; studied with Ronald Roseman.
🔹Extensive professional experience with orchestras, chamber groups and solo performances in the NYC area, including the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra and Choir of Sacred Music.
🔹Founding member of the Phoenix Trio (oboe, violin, cello) and Constellation Trio (flute, oboe, guitar). Member of the chamber group, North Shore Pro Musica.
