This class DOES NOT require any prerequisites since the principles/techniques needed to complete the class are taught DURING the lesson***

This in-depth FLEX class will help students work with layers and blending modes to affect underlying elements, mimicking reflective light and tiered values of shadow in a smooth blend of illusional shape, distance, and color! 

Week 1: We’ll begin our artwork with an in-depth look at advanced layers and shape creation, as we illustrate mountains, trees, sun, and sky! Be sure to share your progress by posting your artwork to the Outschool Classroom, and if you would like to, share an experience when you may have visited the snow yourself. 

Week 2: Dive deeper into our snowy scene as we create tree shadows, stars and other supportive details by learning how to fully utilize the move/transform tool. All while maintaining ultimate quality and resolution. Perhaps you might like to think about a time when you saw long beautiful shadows.

Week 3: Now, with shapes and the overall scene complete, transform each individual element with mesmerizing color selections, and combinations, using custom swatches, and even color psychology! Did you know that fast food restaurants utilize color psychology? How does color make you feel?

Week 4: Finally, to complete your winter wonderland, we’ll tackle the mysterious world of blending modes, especially in regards to color. Watch your snow capped mountains, trees and shadows pop as vibrant color soaks through each layer!

This class utilizes state-of-the-art, screen-sharing technology, using Zoom, which allows students to see and hear Mr. Niven teaching, while watching him draw directly on his iPad screen. Mr. Niven’s teaching style is fun and relaxed, yet motivating, which allows the students to feel comfortable, and confident. Bryan builds on principles, techniques and processes, using real-world examples, and motivates his students to use the knowledge gained in class, to create on their own. 

***PLEASE be respectful of the other students, including your own child, (as it can be overwhelming if they are not properly qualified for class), as you consider your learner’s maturity with regard to listening skills, comprehension, and processing. If you would like to try one of Mr. Niven’s classes, and your child struggles with learning, please consider starting with a private lesson. That way the lesson, and any challenges aren’t compounded by pressure/anxiety. Two of Mr. Niven’s own children are on the Autism Spectrum, thus his dedication to helping ALL children succeed, is not only professional but also personal.
