Welcome to No-Stress AP Literature and Composition Test Preparation! As a current AP Literature instructor, I know the pressures that students face in this final stretch before the exam. My goal is to prepare students for the exam with a host of strategies that will reduce stress and build confidence in AP Literature subject matter. In this course, students will focus on honing their skills without the pressure commonly associated with test prep. We will practice varied approaches to answering multiple-choice questions and apply proven writing structures for arguable thesis statements, lines of reasoning, and strong commentary. Throughout the course, our emphasis will be on three key areas: Poetry Analysis, Prose Fiction Argument, and Literary Argument. Poetry Analysis sessions will highlight nuances of language and form, depths of meaning, and approaches to establish a connection with the material. Prose Fiction Argument classes will address the complexities of prose fiction with an understanding of the functions of characters, setting, narration, and literary elements. The Literary Argument component will guide students through the construction of arguments based on literary analysis. The\ focus here is not just on meeting the exam requirements but on developing an ability to express insightful interpretations. Week of 3/1: Poetic concepts such as structure, form, and shift to explore how poems convey meaning Week of 3/8: Application of skills to poetic analysis and multiple-choice questions Week of 3/15: Approach FRQ 1 Week of 3/22: Prose Fiction concepts such as functions of character and complex relationships, the impact of setting and narrative voice, etc. Week of 3/29: Application of skill to prose fictional analysis and multiple choice questions Week of 4/5: Approach to FRQ 2 Week of 4/12: The structure of the literary argument and an evaluation of complexity Week of 4/19: Approach to FRQ 3
