The goal of the class is to help the student express themselves using a journal in a creative way while experiencing nature.  
Structure of the class:
I will share a photo of a place I visited and share my journal entry. 
Each student who has an entry from the past week will share their journal entry with or without a picture. Note to parents a photo is not required to experience the class. It helps enhance the class but not necessary.
If we don't have to many students share that class day or we have extra time, I will share a nature picture and we will practice talking about our feelings for the picture and if there is time journal about it together. 
Students can choose to journal in sentences. Students can choose to draw a picture about what they saw or how they feel. Students can write a story, song or poem about the nature they saw and experienced.     

Example of a class:
Teacher Clarissa: "I went walking with my sister at a little lake by my house. I saw an eagle in someone's backyard! Here is a picture of the eagle. I wrote a poem about this Eagle. It felt like he loved the attention that he was getting from us. Eagles soar up high, Eagles eyes spy on the ground. Looking at me. Don't bother me it says with a screech! Ok Fine! Look! Look How beautiful and majestic I am! As the Eagle swoops down and circle our heads... Look At Me! So we looked at him! 
Teacher Clarissa: "Sam what do you have to share for us?" 
Sam: "Yes Teacher Clarissa. Me and my family went up the Canyon by our house. We walked on the trail and I saw this weird beetle! It scared my sister! I drew a picture of it and named it Joe. I also looked up what kind of beetle it was and wrote what type it was" *Shows class his picture of a beetle * We talk about the beetle. 
Teacher Clarissa: "Jane what kind of nature did you discover?" 
Jane: "It rained where I lived and there was a double rainbow. I took a picture of it. It made me want to write a poem about it."
Teacher Clarissa: "Wonderful would you like to share your poem with us?" 
Jane: "Ok.... *speaking and showing us her poem* Rainbow, rainbow in the sky. With your pretty colors. Red for Courage, Orange for Strength, Green for Life, Blue for Sadness, Violet for Joy. These colors make me feel Happy! 
Teacher Clarissa: "Tara what did you see?" 
Tara: "I couldn't go outside so I found this woodland picture of an old tree in Ireland. It reminded me of Fairies. I wrote a story about a Fairy. Want to hear about it?" 
Teacher Clarissa: "Yes we do!" 
Tara: "Once upon a time in a Woodland Forrest there was a Fairy named Twinkle....." 
That is how the class will go. Each week is different. I will encourage them to dig deeper to express themselves.
