This class is designed to engage your child's imagination, while imparting valuable knowledge about the interconnectivity of culture, geography, biology, and societal values. Storytelling has been an essential part of our shared human experience for generations. It has shaped our understanding of the world around us, defined our cultural identities, and inspired countless generations. The tales of mythical beasts, legendary heroes, and sacred truths have not just captivated our minds but have also influenced societal norms and values. Our class explores this rich tradition, understanding it not only as a means of entertainment but as a powerful educational tool. In 'Myths and Legends,' we travel from the icy realms of Norse mythology to the sun-kissed lands of Greek legends, from the lofty peaks of Himalayan lore to the rich savannahs of African tales, and much more. As we navigate these tales, students learn about different cultures, their unique traditions, social structures, and inherent beliefs. Further, we intertwine this learning with the diverse geographies of the world. Your child will understand how the landscape and climate of a region have influenced the stories born from those places. They will learn how the harsh deserts, dense jungles, vast oceans, and freezing tundra are not just settings for our tales, but important characters in them. No legend is complete without its mythical beasts or sacred animals. As part of this course, students will delve into the fascinating world of biology. They will learn about real animals that inspired mythical creatures, understanding their unique traits, behaviors, and habitats, further fostering a love for the natural world. Through 'Myths and Legends,' we aim to engage, educate, and inspire your child. This unique class creates a holistic learning environment, utilizing the power of stories to instill in your child a deeper appreciation for world cultures, geography, and biology. They will leave the course not only with a treasure trove of fascinating tales to share but also a broadened worldview and a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of our world. For example a class on the story Anansi the Spider would include: 1. We will first introduce ourselves and have a little time to talk about how our week is going. 2. Learning about the Ghanian culture: music, geography, dance, food and animals 3. Next I will read out the story, accompanied by pictures to help understanding. 4.Finally, we will talk about what we thought about the story. (Most traditional stories have a lesson included, we will discuss the students thoughts on the story). 5. Class finishes with a few questions on what we have learnt! ***An idea of 2025 subjects and Vacation times may be subject to change**** Week 48: November 25, 2024 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Norse Mythology pt. 2 Week 49: December 02, 2024 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Norse Mythology pt. 3 Week 50: December 09, 2024 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of the Norse pt. 4 Week 51: December 16, 2024 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of the Norse pt. 5 Week 52: December 23, 2024 ***VACATION*** Week 53: December 30, 2024 - *** VACATION*** 2025 Week 1: January 06, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of the Arctic and Antarctic Week 2: January 13, 2025 - Myths and Legends of the Deep Blue Week 3: January 20, 2025 - Myths and Legends of Indonesia Week 4: January 27, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of the Caribbean Week 5: February 03, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of the Oceania Week 6: February 10, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of China Week 7: February 17, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of South Korea Week 8: February 24, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of the Congo Week 9: March 03, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Japan pt.1 Week 10: March 10, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Japan pt. 2 Week 11: March 17, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Ethiopia Week 12: March 24, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Italy Week 13: March 31, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Jordan Week 14: April 07, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Brazil Week 15: April 14, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Deep Blue pt. 2 Week 16: April 21, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Vietnam Week 17: April 28, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music, and Geography of the Australia Week 18: May 05, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Ireland Week 19: May 12, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Senegal Week 20: May 19, 202 - Myths, Culture, Music, Geography of Canada Week 21: May 26, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music, and Geography of Thailand Week 22: June 02, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music, and Geography of Switzerland Week 23: June 09, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music, and Geography of Peru Week 24: June 16, 2025 Myths, Culture, Music, and Geography of Ghana Week 25: June 23, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music, and Geography of France Week 26: June 30, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music, and Geography of England Week 27: July 07, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music, and Geography of Wales Week 28: July 14, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Turkey Week 29: July 21, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Mongolia Week 30: July 28, 2025 Myths and, Culture, Music and Geography of India Week 31: August 04, 2025 - TBD Week 32: August 11, 2025 - TBD Week 33: August 18, 2025 - Vacation Week Week 34: August 25, 2025 - Vacation Week Week 35: September 01, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Ancient Greece pt.1 Week 36: September 08, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Ancient Greece pt.2 Week 37: September 15, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Ancient Greece pt.3 Week 38: September 22, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of USA pt.1 Week 39: September 29, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of USA pt.1 Week 40: October 06, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Nepal Week 41: October 13, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Namibia Week 42: October 20, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Mexico Week 43: October 27, 2025 - Myths, Culture, Music and Geography of Halloween Week 44: November 03, 2025 - Dragon’s Around the World Week 45: November 10, 2025 - Dragon’s Around the World Week 46: November 17, 2025 - TBD Week 47: November 24, 2025 - Norse Myths and Legends Week 48: December 01, 2025 - Norse Myths and Legends Week 49: December 08, 2025 - Norse Myths and Legends Week 50: December 15, 2025 - Norse Myths and Legends Week 51: December 22, 2025 - Vacation Week Week 52: December 29, 2025 - Vacation Week Suitable for all students within the 7-11 age range, especially those who love stories!

Occasionally a story may have some aspects such as death, a battle, etc. As these are Myths and Legends the stories tend to hold the full spectrum of life on earth within them. However, I ensure things are NEVER gratuitous though.

Growing up in the UK as a minority, I have always studied the non-mainstream perspectives where-ever I could, meaning in all my degree subjects (Philosophy, History & Psychology), I have thoroughly studied different cultural perspectives, and when teaching ensure all my sources are directly from the culture in question.
I have tutored and home schooled in my degree subjects for ages 4-18, taught in schools in my native country the Gambia, and nannies a (ages 0-11). Often questions around cultural differences or equality issues have come up and I am able to handle them softly, while ensuring the student leaves with the knowledge that equality is important for us all!
I am well-traveled, and love to explore new perspectives in my personal life!
