このクラスで学べること
In this lesson, students will learn how to divide history into its three major segments. We will talk first about life as we experience it--what make modern life "modern"--with a focus on government and technology. With the context of modern life in hand, we will then explore the usefulness of dividing the past into "ancient" and "medieval" segments. No background knowledge of history is required. It is *recommended* that students take the My First History Classes on monarchy and democracy before taking this class, but it's possible to take the My First History classes in any order. There is no homework, although a simple worksheet will be provided to help students cement their understanding.

Controversial or polemical topics have little or no place in an introductory presentation of history. This type of class is all about the basics.

教師の専門知識と資格
As a teacher of history for 15 years now, I have worked with students of all levels in private schools and online homeschooling, including students just starting out and older students who never received a proper history education until it was too late. The former group is a joy to work with, because as a teacher you get to guide them into a wonderful world of exotic stories and important lessons. The latter is so difficult to help, because in most cases the window of opportunity to impart the value of history has passed. Having so much experience with both groups, my goal in this class is to help you give your child the gift of the kind of compelling history education neither you nor I received, and thereby help prevent them from being relegated to the group of older students later in life that just cannot connect with a subject they see as irrelevant.
