Lesson 1
Steady Beat
The beat is the foundation of everything in music. It quite literally the pulse that keeps the music alive! In lesson one, learners will explore steady beat with a short lesson followed by performance exercises. Learners should bring their rhythm sticks to this class!
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Tempo
Tempo can really change the feeling of a song! Sometimes we love fast and heart-pounding music. Other times we prefer something slow, low and soothing. In this lesson we'll explore 'Presto' and Largo' tempos through singing, playing musical instruments and games. Learners should bring the musical instrument of their choice to this lesson!

Long & Short Sounds
Changing the length of musical sounds helps us create the building blocks for rhythm! In this lesson, students will receive a brief lesson on Long and Short sounds and practice through singing, playing musical instruments and games. Learners should bring their scraping instrument to this class!
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Rhythm
It's time to explore rhythm! In this lesson, learners will learn quarter note and eighth note rhythms, referred to as "Ta" and "Ti-Ti" in this lesson. After a brief lesson, learners will explore these concepts through singing, playing musical instruments, listening games and movement activities. Learners should bring the musical instrument of their choice to this lesson!

Pitch, Dynamics & Vocalization

Lesson 5
Pitch
In this lesson learners will explore the differences in musical pitch. After a brief introduction we'll kick off with the song "We're Gonna Sing High, We're Gonna Sing Low". After that learners will explore high and low pitch using their rhythm sticks and shaking instruments! Then learners will get to sing another song where they'll put their listening skills to the test! Finally, we'll conclude the game with a fun interactive game where learners will practice identifying high and low sounds.

Lesson 6
The 4 Voices
In this lesson learners will explore the different capabilities of their voice and learn how to use their speaking, whisper, shouting and singing voice. Learners will also reflect and discuss the appropriate use of each type of voice and hear the story "Decibella and Her 6-Inch Voice" by Julia Cook. There are no instruments required for this lesson!

Lesson 7
Vocal Exploration
Now that we've identified the 4 Voices, its time to explore our singing voice and how to use it! In this lesson learners will explore the range of their singing voice. Learners should bring a pipe cleaner to this class! There are no instruments required for this lesson!

Lesson 8
Dynamics
Dynamics means the volume of music! In this lesson learners will learn to identify piano and forte dynamics through a brief lesson, singing, playing musical instruments and learning games. Learners should bring the musical instrument of their choice to this lesson!

Articulation
Learn to identify staccato and legato articulations in this lesson through singing, movement and other learning games! There are no instruments required for this lesson!
 Week 10
Lesson 10
Texture & Timbre
In this lesson, learners will explore the concepts of texture and timbre. They will learn how different sounds are created and how multiple sounds can come together to create rich musical textures. Activities include a body percussion warm-up, exploring the unique sounds of rhythm sticks, egg shakers, and guiro, creating musical textures, and an interactive storytelling session with "We're Going on a Bear Hunt." Please have rhythm sticks, egg shakers, and a guiro available for your learner
  • Learners will count and perform rhythms containing quarter notes and eighth notes (ta and ti-ti rhythms).
  • Learners will differentiate between steady beat and rhythm.
  • Learners will describe, identify and perform various tempos through song, movement and recorded music.
  • Learners will recognize, identify and perform various dynamics with songs and recorded music.
  • Learners will identify and differentiate between musical pitch (high and low).
  • Learners will describe and perform with various voices (speaking, singing, whisper and shouting).
  • Learners will identify and perform various lengths of articulation (long and short) through singing, movement and listening.
  • Learners will demonstrate steady beat through song, movement and recorded music.
  • Learners will explore the range and capabilities of their voice.
  • Learners will understand the concepts of texture and timbre in music
Miss Suzanne is a licensed K-12 music teacher with a decade of experience teaching K-6 music in New Jersey’s public schools and as a private lesson teacher. In addition to her classroom experience, Miss Suzanne owns and operates her own music education business providing learning resources and ideas to other music educators.

詳細: There is no formal homework for this class but children may be suggested optional activities to extend their learning outside the classroom. *Example of this: Practice tapping your foot to the steady beat of your favorite song.

詳細: Students are formatively assessed in class to assess understanding and guide the pace of instruction. The results of the assessments are not typically shared with families and students unless there is a specific concern or if a parent specifically requests an update regarding their child’s progress in the course.
Learners with special needs are warmly welcomed in my classroom. As a former public school teacher, I have experience adapting learning plans for learners with IEPs, behavior plans, and those on the autism spectrum.
No prior musical experience is necessary; this course is for beginners. It’s a perfect first music class for young children.
Students will need 3 types of musical instruments for this class. Instruments can be obtained from local music stores or from online vendors such as Music & Arts or Music in Motion. Alternatively, Miss Suzanne will include a link to an Amazon list where all 3 required instruments can be purchased after enrolling in the course.

*Required Instruments:

-1 Shaking Instrument (maracas or egg shakers)
-1 Pair of Rhythm Sticks
-1 Scraping Instrument (small guiro or sand blocks)
-1 Pipe Cleaner
Songs and activities from MusicPlayOnline and The Singing Classroom will be used for certain lessons but learners do NOT need to go to external websites, click links, create accounts or go outside of the Outschool platform.
Some songs and activities included in this course are from MusicPlayOnline and The Singing Classroom. Learners do NOT need to use or access these websites or create individual accounts in order to participate in these songs and activities.
