このクラスで学べること

As a certified (K-12) music teacher, I have been trained to teach music as an art form, so that people with all kinds of life experiences and beliefs can participate in making music objectively, in a safe space. I absolutely respect learner diversity, and welcome feedback on specific sensitive topics (i.e. family or cultural beliefs that make certain music sensitive). Conversations about sensitivity will be treated with the highest discretion.

Certifications and Experience:
Bachelor of Music Education
Master of Music in Music Education
Currently certified as a K-12 music teacher, with ESL endorsement (exp 2024)
18 years experience teaching music in public elementary schools
12 years experience teaching private music lessons and community choirs
Currently a doctoral student in Curriculum & Instruction
As a student, you will need your own recorder. If you don't already have a recorder, you could consider purchasing a Yamaha or Aulos soprano recorder. Soprano recorders are the most common recorders for beginning elementary-aged students and the fingerings transfer well to other woodwind instruments. They are a very reasonable price and available in many places. We can use music and learning materials that you already have or I can suggest materials for you to purchase.

I also have some digital materials that I may use to enrich your learning journey. Links to access those materials will be shared in the classroom site. You will not need to create an account or log in to the music publisher's website to access the songs.
Music and learning materials used in our lessons will be co-selected by teacher and student. I will assume that any music or materials provided by the student have been approved by a parent. I recommend that students and parents have open communication about the music that the student wants to work on in the lesson.

Students may have the opportunity to utilize digital materials on a music publisher's website. Links to access the songs will be shared in the classroom site. Students will not need to create an account or log in to the music publisher's website to access those songs.

Hello! My name is Ms. Stephanie. When I was in college, a local family asked me to try teaching their daughter to play the piano. This was one of the best experiences of my life! Each week we gathered at the piano where she learned how to play...
