Music Academy: Private Composing Lessons are a great place for you to learn to write music (compose) using music software called Noteflight Learn.  You can learn about music theory concepts, work on composing skills such as notating music you hear, learn how composers use musical concepts to create music, and then have support as you work on your composing project on your own computer.  I will encourage you to compose music that expresses your personal style and holds meaning for you.  Access to Noteflight Learn is included with enrollment. Composing basics we will talk about when you begin:
- how to start a new composition in Noteflight Learn
- choosing (or adding) a voice for your composition
- entering notes and rests on the staff in Noteflight Learn
- how to hear your composition in Noteflight Learn

- note pitches
- using higher and lower notes to create a musical landscape
- note durations
- using longer and shorter notes to create movement
- constructing chords
- using single notes and chords to create texture
- writing a melody and harmony
- key signatures
- writing songs within a key signature

- instruments and their ranges
- using instruments to create ensembles 
- hearing how other musicians composed music

In 30 years of teaching music in private lessons and public elementary schools, the most incredible moments for me have occurred when students enjoyed learning music and felt positive personal connections.
