In this one time class, students will love learning how to subtract numbers 1-25 using M&M's!

Students will be introduced to a strategy they can use to solve subtraction word problems.  The teacher will work through an example problem with the class using the strategy and then show the answer.  Students will then work through word problems individually and hold up a paper with the equation and answer they got.  When incorrect answers occur, the teacher will go over the question with the class as a whole to ensure that everyone is on the same page. 
 At the end of class, students will answer one final word problem and finish by eating their M&M's!

Note: If students do not like M&M's or cannot eat them, they may choose something they do enjoy eating instead.

Hello!  Thank you for sharing this time with me!  My name is Mrs. Bloom, and I love teaching kids!  My goal is to allow my students to experience learning hands on, and to encourage them to think and express themselves in a positive way.  With over 23 years of experience working with kids in multiple capacities, including volunteering at camps, running kids programs, working as a teacher, and raising and homeschooling my own child, I have a huge variety of experiences from which I can pull to create fun and engaging classes for my students!  Since we are expected to integrate information from multiple areas when we approach a problem in real life, my classes are taught from this interdisciplinary perspective.  This allows students to ask questions, explore, and discover information that is interesting and relevant, motivating them to become lifelong learners.
