Learning Goals: 
-become interested and dedicated to a series of books(studies show that children who finish a series of books perform better in school and are more likely to become lifelong readers)
-analyze, relate to, discuss, and ENJOY the main character Anne Shirley and her growth as the series progresses
-read short paragraphs aloud and practice fluency and expression  
-expand vocabulary
-enjoy a bond with fellow readers

I am a certified teacher with over 26 years of experience in Canadian classrooms.  I specialize in Middle Years English and have led hundreds of book clubs with countless students. I have truly enjoyed every minute of it. Perhaps most telling of all, I have been enthralled with Anne Shirley my whole life...so much so, that I went to Prince Edward Island and bought a farmhouse there!! It is a 10 minute drive from my house to the Cape Tryon Lighthouse that was the inspiration for Captain Jim's Lighthouse in the novel "Anne's House of Dreams".

-Reading of the novel is done as homework before each meeting(If the text is too hard for your child to understand, parents should feel free to read sections aloud to the child for better enjoyment of the novel.)
-Learners will be required to do the following assignments prior to each meeting and be prepared to share their work verbally at book club meetings:
     -pick a short paragraph to read aloud
     -pick three new vocabulary words from the assigned text
     -create a discussion question from the assigned text
-A template will be provided for learners to record the above assignments for each meeting
-A fun "House of Dreams Craft" activity will take place during each class but students may choose to work on their house creations in between classes as much or little as they would like

Assessment will be ongoing throughout each class.  As we discuss the book I will be asking various questions which will determine learner comprehension and engagement.  Adjustments and communication will be made when needed to ensure each learner is reaching the above learning goals.
