In this second semester of a 15-week class that covers one semester, students will meet once a week and will also be expected to complete homework at home. This class will focus on aspects of Life Science including cells, the characteristics of living things, plants, animals, habitats, and ecology. Generally, Semester 2 is taken after taking Life Science Semester 1, however, it is not a pre-requisite and they can be taken in any order. Paper and pencil will need to be available for each...
15 lessons//15 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Classifying OrganismsThis week, students will learn taxonomic classification and also be introduced to the Kingdoms of classification (Animalia, Plants, Protists, Fungi, etc) -Homework this week will be a lab in which students classify "junk".Week 2Lesson 2Cell DivisionThis week we explore mitosis and meiosis. -Homework this week includes looking at microscopic pictures of cells (no microscope needed) and determining what phase each cell is in.Week 3Lesson 3GeneticsStudents will learn about genetics and heredity. Homework this week will be a survey into certain genes.Week 4Lesson 4Probability and HeredityThis week we build on genes and look at the probability that a cell will express a certain gene -Homework this week will be a Make the Right Call lab.Week 5Lesson 5Gymnosperm and Angiosperm PlantsThe week we look at the difference between the two. -Homework this week will be leaf sketching and a plant absorption lab.Week 6Lesson 6Animal BehaviorThis week, students delve into animal conditioning and response. Our homework this week will include an experiment into ant behavior.Week 7Lesson 7Studying PopulationsThis week we review what a population is and why studying them is so important. -Homework this week includes an at-home experiment building a world in a bottle.Week 8Lesson 8Interactions Among Living ThingsThis week we talk about how things adapt to their environment. -Homework this week will be a lab on hiding butterfliesWeek 9Lesson 9Changes in CommunitiesThis week we look at how habitats change over time and succession. -This week, we count turtles in a lab :-)Week 10Lesson 10Energy Flow in EcosystemsWhere does energy come from in a food chain? -Homework this week will be making a miniature biome.Week 11Lesson 11BiogeographyHow has the movement of continents affected species. This week, students will be taking a Sock Walk.Week 12Lesson 12BiomesThis week we travel the worlds looking at different biomes. -Homework this week will be writing a first-hand biome account.Week 13Lesson 13Environmental issuesThis week we discuss some current environmental decisions in ecology. Homework this week will be recycling paper.Week 14Lesson 14BiodiversityThis week we talk about endangered and threatened species and how biodiversity benefits the planet. -Homework this week will be a observing a plot of land.Week 15Lesson 15Semester ReviewUsing games and discussion, students will review the last 14 weeks of class. Teacher feedback is sent to parents at the conclusion of the class.
- Students will be able to explore through lecture, experiments, demonstrations, homework, and discussion these topics in life science......cell science, plant and animal science, ecology.
I was a middle school science teacher for 10 years. I have also homeschooled my daughter for 10 years. As a public school teacher, I taught Earth Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, Zoology, Biology, and more to hundreds of students. Science is a passion of mine and I find performing experiments both fascinating and illuminating when learning new scientific facts! In this class, students will have ample opportunity to perform their own experiments to reiterate the information they learn in class. I have my Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-Med and a Master's in Healthcare Administration.
授業以外に週あたり 1 - 2 時間の学習が期待されます
Homework
頻度: 7 or more throughout the classフィードバック: リクエストも承ります詳細: Homework is assigned each week at the end of class. Homework will be posted in the classroom. Please allow 1-2 hours for homework each week. Most homework will be an at-home experiment but might also include worksheets or reports.Letter Grade
頻度: リクエストも承ります詳細: A letter grade will be given for each homework assignment if students upload them in a Teacher Message. The parent will receive a teacher feedback report on the student's progress at the end of the course.
Activities are not mandatory and can be adapted to fit the needs of each individual learner. Notes and homework can be digitally manipulated if student prefers, graded or not, no reading out loud in class.

Please make sure your learner can independently handle them safely.
