WHO AM I:
HELLO! I’m Ms Velvet, and I’m thrilled to be part of your child’s learning journey! I began my teaching career over 20 years ago in North Carolina, where I earned my degrees in Birth through Kindergarten and Early Childhood Education. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching children from Kindergarten through 3rd grade, both in the classroom and online. I have also been teaching middle school students for the last 5-6 years with huge success rates. Along the way, I’ve also served as a curriculum writer, special education instructor, and parent educator for students with special needs.
In addition to my classroom experience, I’m a published author of children's books and am passionate about creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences for all students. While I’ve recently taught virtual classes to students from elementary through middle school( for the past 5 years), I'm a homeschool Mom with two middle schoolers and enjoy teaching at this grade level.
As a homeschooling mom of two, I know how important it is to personalize learning and create an environment where students feel encouraged and supported. I’m also certified in TESOL and TEFL, enabling me to work with ESL learners, and I’m proud to be a 5-Star and ACE educator with Outschool.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy traveling, sewing, and gardening on my small hobby farm. I believe that learning is most impactful when students are fully engaged, and I can’t wait to partner with you to help your child thrive!
As a teacher I believe in the idea of SELF- DIRECTION AND THE ABILITY TO CHOOSE YOUR OWN PATH. I hope my guidance leads others to develop the confidence to choose the right path for them.
Personally, I absolutely love reading. There is a book by Dr Suess that really does so much more than entertain. It is called " Oh, the Places You Will Go." This book truely sets people of all ages up for success! While there are many quotes I could pull from this fabulous writing, my favorite is “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” -
But, why should you CHOOSE MY CLASS;
I am not simply teaching a class full of students. I am teaching your child. After some time with your child, I will be better able to meet his or her needs in the classroom by understanding his or her learning style. I will be able to engage your child, build upon their strengths, and foster a rigorous learning environment blended with fun and Individual personality. My classes are engaging. They take into account the individual needs of students and support them.
