数学戦略: 面積モデルによる掛け算法

Students are learning math differently than how their parents learned and sometimes that is challenging for parents to help their students learn math strategies. This class is focused on reviewing one of those strategies, rooted in number sense, the Area Model Method of Multiplication! (This method is sometimes referred to as the "Box Method.") 

In this one-time class, we will review multiplication arrays and the area model method. This class is perfect for a wide range of learners, from those who want to learn a new way to multiply to those who have been introduced to the method and want more practice. We will practice multiplying 1-digit by 2-digit and 2-digit by 2-digit numbers. If students are ready for a challenge, we might incorporate 2-digit by 3-digit multiplication. This math strategy will be taught live and modeled by the teacher on a dry erase board. Throughout there will be opportunities to work with manipulatives to help solidify understanding, time for guided practice then independent practice, and of course time to interact with the teacher and peers. Questions and discussion are welcome! Additional math concepts that will be incorporated include place value, factor and product vocabulary, fact fluency, adding multi-digit numbers, and area of a rectangle.
